Popcorn Removal Smooth Finish

Smooth ceilings and walls are a timeless design choice that continues to remain in style. Over the years, builders have often turned to textured finishes as a way to speed up drywall finishing and reduce costs, using textures to mask imperfections in the finish. However, with rising home values in South Florida, the demand for higher quality finishes has grown. While popcorn ceilings have long been replaced by knockdown textures, homeowners are now seeking even more refined finishes, pushing knockdown out of favor as well.

Smooth Finish Process

Once popcorn texture is removed, the ceiling undergoes a comprehensive transformation. We begin by skim coating all joints, followed by two full coats of compound applied across the entire surface.

For homes with peaked ceilings, we apply a product called Straight Flex, a fiberglass tape that sharpens the lines of the peaks, ensuring a clean, precise finish. This method results in a level 5 finish, the highest and most premium standard for drywall. Though this process is labor-intensive and costly, it provides a flawless, smooth surface that truly elevates the space.

Preparation and Cleanup

The newly skim-coated surface must dry for 24 hours before it can be primed and painted. Due to the extensive sanding required, this process is best suited for vacant, unfurnished homes, as it can take several days depending on the size of the property. The preparation and cleanup are essential parts of the job, with great care taken to manage the dust and ensure a pristine finish.
