Popcorn Removal and Knockdown Texture Installation

Knockdown texture is a popular alternative to popcorn ceilings, offering a more modern, stucco-like finish. The process involves spraying the texture onto the ceiling and then troweling it flat for a smooth, subtle look. While knockdown provides an updated appearance, it doesn’t conceal imperfections as effectively as popcorn does. Popcorn texture covers 100% of the ceiling, dries white, and often eliminates the need for painting. In contrast, knockdown texture covers roughly 50% of the surface and must be painted for a finished look.

After popcorn removal, we apply an additional coat of compound to the joints to prevent them from showing through the new texture. Since the tape on your ceiling may be over 40 years old, we take extra care to ensure durability. Skim coating with a 45-minute setting compound often reveals weak spots in the tape, causing blistering. At this stage, any blistering tape is cut out and replaced, a crucial step in preventing future cracks in your new textured ceiling. Our attention to detail maximizes the longevity of your ceiling, helping to protect against cracking and other wear over time.

For the best results, knockdown texture should be applied using a large, professional-grade machine mounted on a truck or trailer. Small portable machines or hoppers may lead to uneven and inconsistent texture, which can result in costly repairs. We offer the knockdown finish both painted or ready to be painted, depending on your preference, ensuring a high-quality, professional look for your home.
